There’s nothing more rewarding than photographing a family again. This spring, I had the joy of working with a beautiful family I originally photographed in the winter, this time with a completely different setting and feel.

From Studio to Springtime

Our first session together was cozy and classic, captured in my Chicago studio during the winter months. We focused on soft indoor lighting, simple backdrops, and the close connection between Mom and her daughter and son. It was timeless.

This time, we stepped outside into the fresh spring air—just as the world was turning green again—and created a whole new story.

A Special Visit from Grandma

What made this portrait session even more meaningful was the presence of Grandma, who was visiting from out of the country. We used this opportunity to capture generational portraits—images that freeze not only a moment in time, but the legacy of love passed down through family.

The Willow Tree That Stole My Heart

Our session took place at Winnemac Park in Chicago and was full of soft spring color and beautiful light. My absolute favorite backdrop was a stunning willow tree, with long branches swaying gently in the breeze. There’s something almost magical about how it framed the family, adding movement and a natural elegance to the portraits.

Under the willow, we captured beautiful portraits. It was the perfect setting to document three generations together—timeless, organic, and completely real.

A Fence, A Frame, A Family

Another favorite spot was a beautiful wooden fence that lined a walking path nearby. It gave us a rustic, textured backdrop with soft greenery in the background—perfect for more posed portraits and individual shots of the kids with grandma. The contrast between this spot and the willow tree gave the gallery variety while still keeping everything cohesive and true to their style.

Why Generational Portraits Matter

This session was a powerful reminder of how special multi-generational photos can be. These aren’t just images for today—they’re heirlooms that will be looked back on for decades to come. Having Grandma in the frame makes this gallery even more meaningful and emotional.

Ready to Tell Your Family’s Story?

Whether it’s your first session or your fifth, each family session tells a unique chapter. I love helping Chicago families capture real connection in beautiful, natural ways—indoors or outdoors, winter or spring, and across generations.
